A report claims that Apple may be releasing iOS 5 this fall instead of its usual summer timeframe of announcing new iOS versions alongside new iphone hardware. While it is being said that Apple may only reveal iOS 5 at Worldwide Developers Conference 2011.
When Apple released the iPad 2 on March 2nd, many people thought that at least somewhere in the keynote, Apple would mention, even if a little bit, about the upcoming iOS 5. They didn’t. Which obviously means that iOS 5 release is going to be late, like fall 2011.
So it looks like Apple is going to reveal details of iOS 5 at the WWDC and will release iOS 5 later on. However, Apple might give the first glimpse of the upcoming iOS version to developers so that they can make and submit their apps in time for iOS 5 release. Previously, it was rumored that Apple will launch iOS 5 in April, however this report claims other wise.
iOS 5, according to these sources, is going to be all about the cloud. iOS 5 will bring the much rumored cloud based music, videos, and photo service. However, do keep in mind that a fall release of iOS 5 may clash with the rumored release of the third-generation iPad scheduled for later this year as well.
The report doesn’t mention anything about the next generation iPhone. Whether or not Apple will launch it in time, as usual, in June or July or will it be pushed back like iOS 5 as well? The best guess is that iPhone 5 will ship with iOS 4.x and iOS 5 will later be released an afirmware update.
What ever the case may be, stay tuned as we’ll be sure to let you know what’s going to happen.
